Carina Gommers

Partner

Carina is a founding partner of CAST and one of Belgium’s most prominent intellectual property lawyers, with a strong international reputation for delivering results in both complex disputes and strategic advisory work.


Alongside her practice, Carina is a key figure in the international IP community. As President of ECTA, and through numerous leadership roles over the years, she plays an active role in shaping the future of IP law and policy. A respected voice in the field, Carina serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice, publishes widely, and frequently lectures. She also sits as a CEPANI-approved arbitrator in domain name disputes.

  • Representing a Belgian company in securing EU trade mark protection for a 3D shape for earplugs.


  • Representing a US company in trade mark litigation regarding medical devices before the Belgian courts.


  • Representing a UK company providing telehealth and telecare solutions in patent litigation before the Belgian courts, including on aspects dealing with competition law.


  • Representing a multinational company producing household appliances such as kitchen devices, in a design infringement case before the Belgian courts in which a preliminary referral was made to the CJEU.


  • Representing a Dutch company known for its wax fabrics in copyright infringement proceedings.


  • Representing a Belgian multinational company, best known for its caramelized biscuits in a combination colour trade mark application before the EUIPO and General Court.


  • Representing a Belgian multinational company in a case in which an ex-employee misappropriated trade secrets.


  • Representing a well-known company in the travel sector in a litigation in which it was accused of infringing a trade mark as well as copyright held by a Belgian company.


  • Coordinating a global rebranding for an international leader in lighting.
